Group 5: Gender Inequality

In the United States and around the world, women continue to be underrepresented in high-level, highly paid positions and overrepresented in low-paying jobs. Women of color experience particularly high levels of poverty, unemployment, and other economic hardships. Gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace contribute significantly to these persistent economic divides.

The Guerrilla Girls are an anonymous group of feminist, female artists devoted to fighting sexism through art activism. In their book, on page 39 there’s a poster with a dollar bill showing that women in America earn only two thirds of what men do. Being that our group consisted of all women we thought gender inequality would be a good topic for our project. Gender inequality is something we have all faced or will face in the future, especially once we begin our careers. Unfortunately for us, we probably won’t ever get a chance to see a world, or even just the United States, where women and men are paid equal. Right now, it would take about 108 years to close the gender gap.
